Open to students, ages 10 – 19, Kirov Academy’s Summer Intensive is designed for the serious ballet student and is the gateway to acceptance in our Year-Round Program. The dates for 2017 are June 25th through July 30th.

We offer intensive study in classical ballet with our world-renowned Russian faculty. Class offerings will include: classical technique, pointe and variations, Horton modern/contemporary, men’s technique, partnering, and character. Non-dance courses may include: music theory, drama, health and wellness lectures, ballet history, and Russian language. Tuition

USD$3900– Artistic tuition
USD$2500 – Food and lodging fee
USD$400 – Enrollment fee

Housing

KAB has housing facilities for 64 students. Girls aged 12 and under, most 13 year old girls, as well as all boys, board in KAB’s dorm facilities. Older students board at Trinity University, which is a 5-minute ride from the Academy. KAB dorms are filled to capacity with students based solely on age. We CANNOT guarantee housing location to any 13 or 14 year old as enrollment may change at the last minute. Both sites are fully staffed by KAB resident advisors.
Photos and info on the rooms at Trinity can be found here. All rooms at Trinity are double occupancy. Buses will run between KAB and Trinity in the morning and evening so students will have easy, reliable, and safe transportation at all times.
Resident students are required to pay a $40 deposit (cash or check) for room keys when they check in on arrival day. When the key is returned at the end of the session, the deposit will be returned in full.

Student Life/Health and Wellness

Resident Life at the academy is a unique and unforgettable experience. We provide a safe and healthy environment that gives our students the freedom to enjoy growing up while also affording the structure that builds character. The grace, discipline and poise of the ballet lifestyle are combined with the spontaneity, creativity and enthusiasm of developing young adults. We look for parental qualities of caring, compassion, good sense and sound judgment in all of our Resident Advisors.
A variety of in-house activities are planned for all of our students. Those who are not permitted to leave campus with an adult or chaperone will also be provided the opportunity for limited, chaperoned, outside activities. Older students are given a tutorial of the transportation and tourism options in DC and encouraged to organize age-appropriate group outings with friends. An organized tour of Washington, DC will be offered to students at an additional cost. This service is provided through a third party, with minimum number of students required to participate. More information will be available soon.
Our health and wellness team, which includes the nurse, counselor, and Resident Life Director, works with the Artistic Director to ensure the health and welfare of all our students. This is a top KAB priority. Our school nurse is on site six days a week and on call all other times. The nurse is the school’s “first line of defense” in injury prevention and overall health of our students. KAB has a long-standing relationship with an expert team of pediatric and orthopedic specialists at nearby Children’s Hospital Center. Students are seen quickly and referred to outside specialists as needed. Our student counselor works closely with the young dancers to help them navigate the pressures of ballet classes, living away from home and social life.
All meals are prepared by our professional chef and dining staff. A nutritionist works closely with the chef to provide the healthiest and tastiest meals possible.
